PURPOSE:To easily distinguish an unread mail or a read mail by providing an area to store a flag representing whether a mail is not read, or already read or deleted corresponding to a mail to a mail information list file. CONSTITUTION:A work station(WS) B is provided with a mail buffer 4 storing a mail text at the reception of a mail and a mail information list file 5 storing index information corresponding to the mail stored in the buffer 4. The file 5 has a flag area, and a mail information list file revision means 8 sets a flag corresponding to the mail having the mail text from the unread state to the read state every time the mail text of the buffer 4 is referenced. Moreover, a mail information file item delete means 11 brings the flag corresponding to the mail having the mail text to the delete state every time the mail text of the buffer 4 is deleted. As a result, the mail unread management is implemented and the read mail and the unread mail are easily distinguished.
