PURPOSE:To offer an Er-added optical fiber amplifier which has low-noise constitution and is large in saturation output. CONSTITUTION:Signal light is multiplexed, by an optical multiplexer demultiplexer 5 with exciting light emitted by an exciting light source 41 and made incident on an Er-added optical fiber 11 after passing through an optical isolator 61. The signal light which is amplified in this Er-added optical fiber, further amplified through two similar procedures, and then branched by an optical multiplexer demultiplexer 54 with exciting light and outputted. Exciting light sources 41, 42, and 43 in use have their wavelengths matched with the absorption wavelength of the Er-added optical fiber, but the wavelength of the exciting light source 41 is shorter than the wavelength of the exciting light source 43. |
