The method is applied to seismic data received by receivers (Ri) distributed over the terrain and collected by acquisition boxes (Bi), for their transmission to a central control and recording station (P) by means of radio waves for example. It comprises first of all the construction of digital words by adding to each N1-bit digitised signal sample, in each acquisition box, a n-bit coding suffix sufficient for detecting and correcting any error due to transmission. In order to eliminate the effect of long-wavelength perturbations, the method also comprises the grouping of the words into blocks and an interlacing in the reading of the words of each block at the moment of transmission. A complementary sequence for de-interlacing, degrouping and correcting possible errors restores the digital samples to their initial state. Application to seismic prospecting. <IMAGE>
