BULKY POLYPROPYLENE FIBER CAPABLE OF BEING DYED AND METHOD OF ITS PRODUCTION

PURPOSE: To provide a method for producing hot-bulked polypropylene fibers capable of easily being dyed with cationic, acidic or disperse dyes. CONSTITUTION: The dyeable fibers are formed by blending a major portion of polypropylene with a minor portion of (1) a copolymer of nylon 6, 6 with hexamethylene diamine and an alkali metal salt of 5-sulfoisophthalic acid or (2) a basic reaction product of N-(2-aminoethyl)piperazine, adipic acid and hexamethylene diamine and optionallyε-caprolactam, by extruding the blend in air into filaments, by drawing them up to 2-4 times their undrawn length and by bulking them using a jet of heated turbulent fluid.
