At least one antistatic agent is incorporated into a thermoplastic polymer by contacting a polyvinyl chloride polymer with a solution comprising a solvent capable of swelling the PVC surface and at least one antistatic agent selected from the group consisting of 1-dodecylpyridinium chloride monohydrate and (R<1>)n(R<2>)m ammonium halide, wherein n and m are integers of from 0-4 and n+m = 4, and wherein R<1> and R<2> can be different or the same and are alkyl groups of from 1 to 20 carbon atoms.
