METHOD AND DEVICE FOR TRANSMITTING PACKET DATA TRAFFIC

PURPOSE: To convert data irregularly generated from a data source into a steady data flow and to transmit the data flow to a receiving side. CONSTITUTION: A node 100 of a packet data switching network consists of plural input ports 102 each of which has a processor 104. Each input port 102 processes input data and generates a cell, which is transmitted to one of plural output ports 120 through an ATM switching structure part 110. Each output port 120 has a processor 122 consisting of a controller 124 and a memory 130. The memory 130 is used for storing a program 132 and four queues. Three of the four queues are for CBR traffic and one is for VBR traffic. These four queues are used for entering cells into the queues in priority order and arrival order and allowing the cells to wait for to transmit data under the control of a controller 124 to be driven by the program 132.
