PURPOSE:To improve recording density by a low cost structure by using an ultraviolet lamp without using laser beams by a method wherein an information pattern is recorded by a fluorescent material on a substrate and besides information is read based on fluorescence to be obtained by irradiating light on the information pattern. CONSTITUTION:When ultraviolet rays 5 emitted from, for example, an ultraviolet lamp 8 are incident on a side surface (a bottom surface) of a transparent substrate 1, a pit 2 is formed thereon by fluorescent material emitting specific wavelength fluorescence 6, and an information pattern is recorded by arranging this pit 2. Further, a bottom surface of the substrate 1 is coated by an absorption layer 3 for the ultraviolet ray 5 so as to cover the pit 2. Furthermore, a bottom surface of the absorption layer 3 is coated by a protective layer 4. Then, the ultraviolet rays 5 are incident on an optical recording medium in which the information pattern of the pit 2 is formed from a transparent upper surface side of the substrate 1. Then, since only the pit 2 emits the fluorescence 6, this fluorescence 6 is detected with a fluorescence detector 7. Thereby, information of the recording medium is read. |
