A signal processing apparatus includes a reference signal generating section (3) for generating a plurality of reference signals (Ai) having different signal values, a complement signal generating section (4) for receiving the reference signals and an unknown input signal (X) and generating a plurality of complement signals representing (2X - Ai), a multiplication section (5) for multiplying the reference signals (Ai) with the corresponding complement signals (2X - Ai), and a neural network (1), in which a plurality of neurons are reciprocal-inhibition-coupled, the neurons receiving the products obtained by the multiplication section (5), and the neuron which receives the product having a largest value outputs a spark signal which is sensed by a sense element (2). The apparatus may be used to linearise the output of a thermocouple or a temperature- measuring resistor (Figs 2-3), or in an analogue to digital converter (Figs 8-13). <IMAGE> |
