PURPOSE:An agent for dental caries for preventing dental caries, having ability to inhibit activity of glycosyltransferase resulting from Streptococcus mutans, comprising a gallotannin, chebulinic acid, granatin A, etc. as active ingredients. CONSTITUTION:An agent for dental caries comprising one or more of a gallotannin (e.g., trigalloylglucose, tetragalloylglucose, etc.), chebulinic acid, chebulagic acid, granatin A and B, punicalin, punicalagin as active ingredient. The active ingredient is obtained by fractionating and purifying each component of medicinal plant such as Arctostaphylos uva-ursi Sprengel, Quercus infectoria, and Terinalia chebula pumicalagin, etc. The active ingredient inhibits activity of glycosyltransferase resulting from Streptococcus mutans, and useful as an agent for dental caries. |
