Novel monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies which selectively bind the approximately 100 Kda, human, cytosolic phospholipase A2 enzyme are taught and claimed as part of the invention. The claimed antibodies are useful in a streamlined procedure for purifying cPLA2. Another aspect of the invention is the use of the claimed antibodies as reagents for detecting the presence of cPLA2 in biological fluids.
