System for the automatic production of an orthogonal diagram, starting from a cartographic plan of an electricity distribution network, which consists of: a) a graphics system supported by a computer which digitises a cartographic electricity distribution plan; b) a database associated with the graphics system, which contains information on the characteristics of the digitised elements; c) an expert system which, with its inference engine, orthogonalises the plan; d) an output interface with program means, between the file directory of the expert system and a graphics station tasked with graphically representing the orthogonal diagram.
