[Also in Division B5] An appartus for tree-felling comprises a blade 2 driven by a hydraulic cylinder 3 towards either a fixed work-piece 1 or another blade (not shown), the blade being mounted on two pairs of links 4a, 4b which constrain it to move both parallel to itself and laterally. As shown, the fixed workpiece is slotted to permit the blade to pass therethrough and the cylinder 3 is pivoted to the work-piece at 6 to allow it to pivot slightly as the link 4a moves. The blade has flutes 9 just behind the cutting edge 8. In Fig. 2 the device is shown mounted on a semi-crawler tractor 11 on a boom 10, to which it is attached by a ball-joint. The ball-joint includes movable parts (Fig. 3, not shown) which are lockable on to the ball to fix the joint, by hydraulic means.</p> |
