The bicycle (13) carries a non-removable identification transponder which can be recognised by a sensor inside the entry/exit gate (2) of the parking area. The rider carries a similar device which has a complementary code to his bicycle. The rider (12) pushes his bicycle through the gate as he passes through a turnstile (1). If the two identifications are recognised as a pair, the turnstile is free to move and a blocking device (9) at the end of the gate (2) is removed. If the rider carries no transponder, or one which does not match the bicycle, the gate and turnstile are blocked.
