PURPOSE:To provide a catalyst having high catalytic activity capable of purifying exhaust gas by reducing and removing nitrogen oxide with high efficiency even when the concn. of oxygen in the exhaust gas is high. CONSTITUTION:A catalyst for purifying exhaust gas contains zinc and zeolite and, by the use of this catalyst, nitrogen oxide in exhaust gas is reduced and removed at reaction temp. of 300-800 deg.C in an oxidizing atmosphere in the presence of hydrocarbon set to 1-20 in THC concn./NOX concn. Herein, THC concn. is the concn. of hydrocarbon converted to methane. |
