The present invention relates to a process and a device for producing gilled pipes. According to the process, plastics material from an extrusion press is fed into a forming chamber 12, which is delimited by a die bushing 4, a mandrel 9 and moulds 1, 2 which are movable in the direction of the centre axis of the mandrel. Whenever the pressure in the forming chamber 12 deviates from a desired value, a gap forms between the moulds 1, 2, into which gap plastics material penetrates, or indeed the grooves in the moulds are inadequately filled. To return the pressure to the correct value, it is known traditionally to inspect the finished pipe and adjust the speed of the extrusion press or moulds on the basis of deformations in the pipe. This slow and uncertain process is replaced according to the invention by the use of a pressure transducer 14 to measure directly the pressure of the material in the forming chamber, which pressure transducer adjusts the motional speed of the extrusion press or moulds. <IMAGE>
