Mounts are severed from an intermittently advanced mount strip 2 and adhesively secured with pressure to pictures 9 or posters. The strip 2 is drawn by anentrainment arrangement 4 past a coating mechanism 3 which either applies a paste to the strip 2 or moistens a strip 2 pre-coated with adhesive. Alternatively, the strip 2 is pre-coated with heat-sensitive adhesive and the coating mechanism is not used. Conveyer heads 5, 5<SP>1</SP> are alternatively used in dependence upon the form of the strip 2. The mounts are cut from the strip by a guillotine 7. An edging knife 8 may be provided. The guillotine movement is co-ordinated with the movement of the head 5 or 5<SP>1</SP>. The severed mount is applied by a press plate which is heated when a heat-sensitive adhesive is used. One form of mount strip (Fig. 2) comprises a rigid paper ribbon with spaced cord loops applied to one face and projecting from one edge. Alternatively, the strip (Fig. 3) is a flexible ribbon with metal clips on one edge.</p> |
