1,097,784. Pneumatic tyres. MICHELIN & CIE (COMPAGNIE GENERALE DES ETABLISSEMENTS MICHELIN). July 25, 1966 [July 24, 1965], No. 33411/66. Heading B7C. In order to reduce the tendency to separation of the carcass cords in the bead region of a pneumatic tyre including a radial cord carcass ply of non-metallic cords looped around the bead wires, each loop is internally and externally coated with an elastomer or elastomeric mixture having a modulus of elasticity M100 (in g/mm.<SP>2</SP>) at 100% elongation not exceeding four-fifths of the modulus of elasticity M (in kg./mm.<SP>2</SP>) of the carcass cords at one-tenth of their tensile breaking load. Since (it is stated) the Shore hardness S of the elastomer is equal to 56 log 10 M 100 -67, then the above requirement is equivalent to a requirement that S should not exceed 56 log 10 M-72À5. The external coating maybe surrounded by a ply of metal cords. The carcass cords may be of rayon, polyamide, polyester or polyvinyl resin. In an example nylon carcass cords have a modulus of 280 kg./mm.<SP>2</SP> and the coating material has a Shore hardness of 60 and a thickness of 2 mm. |
