PROCESS AND EQUIPMENT FOR BIOLOGICAL PURIFICATION OF SEWAGE CONTAINING ORGANIC IMPURITIES

Effectiveness of the biological process is increased by adding active sludge into the effluent channel upstream of the treatment plant, and in some cases the effluent water is also aerated. - Appts. comprises: an active sludge addn. vessel is connected to the channel. In some cases air supply pipes are also connected. Active sludge is returned from the treatment unit to the addition vessel via pipework. According to the proposal the hydraulic capacity of the system is also increased by routing the effluent water from the sand-trap of the treatment unit to industrial type filters. The filtered water is fed to an aerator, then divided. One pt. is routed to an alternating action settler and the other part to a settler. Equipment is proposed to implement the above, comprising sand-trap (18), industrial type filters (20a, 20b), aerator (24), post-settler (26), alternating action settler (22a, 22b)
