The invention relates to display devices of the plasma panel type. Its purpose is particularly to simplify the technology and the use of these devices. The display device of the invention includes a plasma panel (11) in which a gaseous space (14) is produced. At least one discharge region (ZD1) is formed in the gaseous space (14) by the use of two electrodes (E1, E2). According to the invention, on the one hand, the display device further includes means (20, 25) for adjusting the amplitude of voltage signals (S.A.C.) applied to the two electrodes (E1, E2), and, on the other hand, the two electrodes (E1, E2) extend in the same general direction, while separating from one another. This arrangement makes it possible to modify the length of a light spot (35) depending on the alterations in a message to be displayed. <IMAGE>
