In ground-tamping apparatus comprising at least two rotatable out-of-balance masses arranged on parallel shafts, the phase relationship between the masses may be varied by axial movement of a control ring 11 to disengage a dog clutch 9, 17 between a driving gear 6 and a shaft 2 carrying one of the masses 1, the clutch being engaged automatically after relative rotation of 180 degrees by co-operating cam means 10, 18. The ring 11 is located in a recess in the driving gear 6, which is rotatably mounted on the shaft 2, and is actuated by a control rod 14. |
