PURPOSE:To automatically adjust the positional shift of the recording elements (nozzles) between a plurality of recording heads at the time of the replacement of the recording heads by correcting the respective printing start timings of a plurality of the recording heads on the basis of the error data to a reference position. CONSTITUTION:When. a nozzle is shifted toward a start position SP (b), positive correction quantity is written in a non-volatile memory 504 and, when the nozzle is shifted in the direction on the side opposite to the start position SP (c), negative correction quantity is written in said memory 504. When the nozzle is shifted toward the start position (b), the nozzle does not yet reach a regular position at the point of time when a head based on an initial plan value reaches a recording start position but reaches the regular position after the time corresponding to the shift quantity. An accuracy error (x) is measured by visually inspecting a nozzle row by a magnifying glass at the time of the preparation of the head. Correction data is calculated from the accuracy error (x) thus measured and set to a register group. |
