Grinding outer surface of tube - using two spaced abrasive bands wrapped round tube and reciprocated out of phase by linear end drives

Two parallel spaced abrasive bands (5) are wrapped round the tube. They are fastened at oen end to out-of-phase reciprocating drive plates (4), and at the other end to the ends of a rocker lever (6) centrally pivoted on a bracket (8). An opposing support to the abrasive bands is provided by a scissors linkage (9) with spherical rollers (11) bearing against the tube. The tangent angle of the band end extensions can be varied either or the drive plate or rocket lever ends, and the bands can be tensioned by elastic elements either at the band ends or in the supporting scissors linkage. The drive plates are driven through a motor and gearbox (2, 3). USE/ADVANTAGE - Grinding outer surface of tube. Inaccessible parts of tube can be reached. Equipment is easily mounted and traversed on tube. Grinding swarf is driven from contact zone.
