Characters or symbols are bonded, printed or etched on a translucent plate (L) of frosted glass which is thickened (M) slightly at points opposite the two rows of small lamps (Q) recessed (A) into a light conductive component (K), and backed by reflectors (E) with angled boundary surfaces (B) for uniformly distributed diffuse reflection (Y). Light is incident on the front surface (V) of the light component (K) mainly at angles which exceed the limit for total internal reflection. The air gap enhances uniformity of illumination. USE/ADVANTAGE - On e.g. vehicles or aircraft, max. use is obtd. of uniformly bright surface without additional framing.
