Drum-type electrolyser - with moving particle bed, esp. for metal electrodeposition

In a mixing particle bed-type electrolyser with a horizontal perforated drum arranged in an open-top container, the novelty is that (i) part of the stationary drum rear wall (3), not directly facing a counter-electrode (13), is in the form of a circular plate; (ii) the inner side of the rear wall (3) is in contact with a stationary metal plate (8) which effects current supply into the particle bed; (iii) the rear wall (3) and the metal plate (8) have openings (5, 6) for pipe connections for particle and electrolyte feed and withdrawal, and have holes (7) for current leads so that, if the metal plate (8) is not present, current is supplied to the particle bed only through the holes (7); (iv) the peripheral edge face of the rear wall (3) acts as a slide face for a rotating drum ring (9); (v) the drum ring (9) has mixer elements (10) on its inner peripheral edge face or on an outer distance ring for better bed mixing; (vi) the drum ring (9) is joined to a perforated plate (11) which acts as the particle bed boundary at the counter-electrode side; and (vii) the peripheral edge face of the drum ring (9) has fine holes for escape of any gas. USE/ADVANTAGE - The electrolyser is esp. useful for metal electrodeposition from medium to weakly concentrated solns., esp. in reprocessing electroplating process and waste solns. and in metal electrorefining
