Measuring periodic axial forces on differential gearing - using real=time filtering of axial force amplitude by bandpass filter triggered by shaft rotation frequency

A method of measuring the periodic axial forces of parallel linkages-via which the drive torque is transferred from a vehicle differential to its drive shafts or wheels-involves using force measurement devices attached to a lateral shaft to measure the axial forces. The shaft rotation rate is measured and the friction dependent acial force in the drive shaft detrermined from the number of force transfer rollers using real time filtering of the axial force amplitude. A bandpass filter is triggered by a shaft rotation frequency to maintain a control characteristic. The frequency sought is passed undamped in a narrow band with all adjacent orders significantly damped. ADVANTAGE - Enables periodic axial forces to be measured both under test stand and non-stationary conditions.
