The absorber has a light conductor section which is permanently shaped by heat treatment so that all modes emitted emerge from the core (1) of the fibre into the cladding (2). The absorber is pref. shaped to be permanently compressed or bent. ADVANTAGE - Simple inexpensively mfd. poorly reflective optical damper, esp. absorber.
