An assembly and measurement aid contains a steering wheel measurement level (3) mounted at a defined circumferential position on the vehicle steering wheel (2) to give an electrical signal indicating its inclination. This is processed into a wheel angular position signal displayed to the assembly worker beneath the vehicle. The signal is converted into a modulation signal for an infrared beam (12) by a converter integrated into an infrared transmitter (8). An infrared receiver (9) with a signal demodulator mounted next to the vehicle. USE/ADVANTAGE - For vehicle steering system mass production.
