PURPOSE:To prevent the cracking and damage of a preform due to the difference in thermal expansion between the preform and dies when the preform is carbonized between the dies. CONSTITUTION:An inner die 1 and an outer die 2 are made of a carbonaceous material such as graphite or ceramics and the outer die 2 is split into plural die segments 3, 4. A preform P is enclosed by combining the inner die 1 with the die segments 3, 4 of the outer die 2 around the preform P while interposing buffers 5, 6 between the preform P and the dies 1, 2. The outsides of the dies 1, 2 are then bound with wire net-shaped binding belts 7, 9 having extensibility and the preform P is carbonized. |
