PURPOSE:To produce a high strength Al2O3-SiC compound sintered body by sintering a mixture of Al2O3, with SiC and the oxide of a rare earth element under ordinary pressure. CONSTITUTION:SiC powder is added to Al2O3, powder by 2-10wt.% and a compd. forming the oxide of a rare earth element as a sintering aid is further added by 0.1-5wt.% (expressed in terms of the oxide). They are mixed, molded and sintered at 1,350-1,750 deg.C under ordinary pressure in an inert atmosphere or in vacuum. |
