The rotating shaft (20) is surrounded by an oil film of controlled thickness and contained inside two bearing half shells. One of the shells has the bearing surface hollowed (15) to reduce the oil pressure to acceptable levels. This ensures that the bearing does not run dry under high torque. The peak oil pressure, and/or the minimum oil film thickness are computed for the bearing. The recessed shape is provided in the high wear area. The bearing shell can also be lined with a low friction coating for added protection. USE/ADVANTAGE - Long life bearing, no special bearing material required.
