An expansible anchor bolt has a cylindrical body (4) with an internal screw thread (5) extending from one end over about half the length of the body. Spring fingers (7) are formed at the opposite end of the body by means of longitudinal slots which run into an initially parallel bore (8). The parallel bore extends to a conical surface (9) which runs into a bore (15) of reduced diameter which in turn runs into a circumferential groove (24). An expander element (11) is inserted into a previously drilled and undercut hole (6) in the concrete or masonry (1). The body of the bolt is then driven into the hole over the expander element, which forces the spring fingers (7) radially outwards into the undercut region of the hole (6).
