The toolholder fastens into the removable segment of a ring rotating on rollers between two C-form housings and surrounding the pipe from which the weld head is to be removed. The tool is mounted on the ram of a hydraulic cylinder (5) which is controlled by the directional control valve (6). Oil can be admitted to the cylinder from the pressure line (11) and returned to a built-in sump (8) via the return line (12). Oil is pumped along line (11) by a plunger pump (1) whose spring-loaded plungers cyclically contacts a cam fixed to the machine housing. Non-return valves (2, 2') are located each side of the pump and a storage vessel (3) smooths out pressure fluctuations. The tool is fed towards the work by the action of the pump until contact is made with a stop activating valve (6) to divert oil to the sump. A USE/ADVANTAGE - Simple, compact system protected from swarf and disc. Gives accurate tool infeed.
