The wrapping machine has a rotary foil reel and height-adjustable foil pull carriage with photocells for scanning the length of the garments. A bottom welding unit (9) is mounted vertically adjustable in the movement direction (A) of the garments behind the pulling carriage (6) in the machine frame (2) where it is moved by a motor-driven chain drive (8). The travel path of the bottom welding unit down into the welding position for the foil sleeve (1), once drawn over the garment, is controlled by route recorders (12, 13) associated with the guide pulleys (10, 11) of the two chain drives (5, 8) in dependence on the travel path of the pull carriage.
