A bright steel rod heated to the rolling temp. is coated while passing through a molten metal bath of the same temp.. On leaving the bath the surplus coating is stripped off and the rod is cooled to solidify the coating, while the steel core remains at the rolling temp., so that the metal coating, the alloyed layer and the core are of the same or similar strength. The rod is then rolled to produce the required ribbing, with homogeneous deformation of the above-mentioned three constituent parts of the rod to ensure crack-free coating of uniform thickness. USE/ADVANTAGE - For producing corrosion resistant ribbed reinforcing rods for concrete. Since forming of the ribbing occurs after coating, the intended original geometry of ribbing is preserved, with a resultant better bond to concrete in comparison with reinforcing of this type produced by traditional methods.
