In a device for applying labels (2) to containers (11) the labels are removed from the stack by rolling against a bonding surface (14) coated with cold glue (6). Before the removal is complete, an additional limited application of hot glue (7) to the frontmost label of the stack takes place. Subsequently the label provided with cold glue and hot glue is peeled from the adhesive surface (5) and pressed by means of its glued reverse side against a container (18). Through the fact that the label is still in the receptacle during the application of the hot glue, the shape and position of the hot glue application is entirely independent of the foregoing labelling. ……
