PURPOSE:To improve quality by fixing cellular compacts in the bottom of a container, sealing copper or its alloy therein, pressurizing the container with a high-temperature compressed gas and impregnating the cellular compacts with the copper or its alloy. CONSTITUTION:Two cellular compacts 8 and 8 such as cellular carbon substances are arranged through a stainless steel plate 9 in a container 1 made of soft steel in which the inner peripheral surface is coated with ceramic cloths 6, 13 and 19 having 3-10mm thickness. The upper part of the cellular compacts 8 and 8 are then pressed with stainless steel wires 12 to fix the compacts 8 and 8 on the lower end of the container 1. Cylindrical copper or its alloy materials 14 and 18 for impregnation are arranged between the cellular compacts 8 and 8 and the inner peripheral surface. An upper lid 3 is subsequently welded to remove air from a vent hole 22 and the container is then hermetically sealed. The hermetically sealed container 1 is subsequently charged into an HIP device, subjected to isostatic pressing and heating with a high-temperature compressed gas to melt the copper or its alloy materials 14 and 18, which are then impregnated into the cellular compacts 8 and 8. After the HIP treatment, the container and the residual copper or copper alloy skin are cut and removed to afford the objective cellular compacts impregnated with the copper or its alloy. |
