The control apparatus comprises means (3) for picking up the dynamic behaviour of the member and of a variable representing the dynamic behaviour of each electromagnetic means, means (5) for decomposing the behaviour of the member in response into each of its solid (rigid) body modes and of its traversed or approached elastic modes in order to attain the nominal operating point of the member and means (5, 7) for controlling the said electromagnetic means as a function of the said responses and of the variable representing the dynamic behaviour of each electromagnetic means, in order to control the dynamic behaviour of the member. It is characterised by the control method, implemented by the calculating and control unit (5), in order to increase the rapidity of the processing in real time. Application: supporting (levitating) a rotor of a rotating machine. <IMAGE>
