PRODUCTION OF VICINAL DIOL

PURPOSE:To produce a vicinal diol by reacting the corresponding 8-30C olefin oxide with water under normal pressure. CONSTITUTION:The above reaction is carried out under an alkaline condition (pH8-13) in the presence of a catalyst consisting of an organic acid salt and a quaternary ammonium salt or a quaternary phosphonium salt.
