CYSTEINE THIOL-PROTECTED PEPTIDES FOR USE IN IMMUNOASSARS

Immune-reactive peptides are prepared with natural protein antibodies and have at least two cysteine residues which contribute to imitating a protein epitope with the cystine thiol groups protected. When the peptides become unprotected, they have increased immune-reactivity. The peptides are particularly useful for detection of antibodies or antigens related to clinically important retroviruses, lymphotropic retroviruses HIV-1, HIV-2, HTLV-1, and HTLV-II.
