PURPOSE: To sensitize a silver halide photographic material in a near IR spectral band so that it is used especially for laser beam recording by incorporating a specified compd. into an emulsion layer. CONSTITUTION: When an emulsion layer contg. a silver halide emulsion sensitized to near IR with a combination of a hypersensitizer with a heptamethine chain-contg. dye represented by formula I is formed on a transparent substrate to obtain a photographic laser beam recording material, a compd. represented by formula II is incorporated into the emulsion layer. In the formula I, each of Z<1> and Z<2> is a group of nonmetallic atoms required to complete benzothiazole, benzoxazole, etc., each of R5 and R6 is alkyl or substd. alkyl, each of R1 -R4 is H, alkoxy, etc., X<-> is an anion and (n) is 0 or 1. In the formula II, each of R11 , R13 , and R14 is H or optionally substd. lower alkyl an R12 is optionally substd. alkyl or aryl.
