A sliding stopper for fluid pipes with a plug position safety system comprises a locking pin (14) for the plug (3) which can engage in two drillings in the thickness of the plug corresponding to the "fluid flow" and "fluid blocked" positions respectively, and a mobile metal plate secured to the release mechanism for the flanges (1), the form thereof allowing the locking pin to be released only when the flanges are fully loosened, and allowing tightening of the flanges only if the locking pin is engaged in one of the two drillings. It is intended for use on a wide variety of pipe systems, in particular in hydrocarbon refining plants, gas treatment plants, petrochemical plants or similar.
