The invention relates to a material in plate form capable of forming a heat insulating barrier where it is subjected, on one face, to a temperature corresponding to that of a fire. It consists of compressed natural cork exhibiting a density of greater than approximately 150 kg/m<3> and preferably lying between 150 and approximately 300 kg/m<3> for producing fire-protection walls, the plate (3) forming a heat (thermal) barrier being associated with an external protection plate (2). Application to the production of enclosures for protecting equipments or pipes against fire. <IMAGE>
