PURPOSE:To provide the composition for the core to obtain a synthetic-resin optical fiber excellent in resistance to heat and moisture and easy to handle and the synthetic-resin fiber utilizing the core. CONSTITUTION:The composition of the core 11 of an optical fiber 10 consisting essentially of an organoxanthin and a carboxylic ester shown by formula I (RA is hydrogen or methyl and RB is hydrogen or a 1-18C substituted or non- substituted monovalent hydrocarbonic group). Meanwhile, the composition for the core 11 is used as the core to constitute the optical fiber 10.
