PURPOSE: To enhance a differenceΔηbetween the refractive indexes of two materials for forming an interface in a device for reflecting electromagnetic radiation, especially a device where reflection is based on the distributed Bragg reflection principle. CONSTITUTION: A highly efficient distributed Bragg reflector 10 based on alternate layers 12 and 13 with a large refractive index difference is manufactured by a process for generating a structure where the layer of remaining epitaxial growth material and the layer of a material filled from a reverse side are alternate by epitaxial growth, the succeeding etchant elimination, and filling from the reverse side. Such kind of reflectors may play a role of a mirror or may be incorporated in each kind of devices containing a laser, an LED, a detector, or a light switch where DBR functions, for example, as a cavity.
