METHOD FOR PLUGGING PIPE OF STRAIGHT-PIPE TYPE HEAT EXCHANGER AND USE OF THIS METHOD

PURPOSE: To achieve the plugging of a defective pipe of a straight pipe type heat exchanger very effectively and with higher reliability. CONSTITUTION: A pipe 4 is cut at an end adjacent to first and second branch parts 14 and 15 to remove metal at joint parts 16 and 16' between each of the branch parts 14 and 15 and the pipe. At least, one parts 20 and 25 of a pipe 4 adjacent to at least one of the branch parts are cut and removed. Tubular plugs 24 and 30 with the diameter smaller than the inner diameter of the pipe are inserted at proper points of both ends of the pipe within a heat exchanger so that closed ends 24a and 30a are arranged in the pipe and the ends on the opposite side are arranged in the corresponding branch parts. The plugs 24 and 30 are fixed at proper points within the branch parts 14 and 15 and a continuous seal welded part is formed between each of the plugs and the corresponding branch parts. Thus, the pipe 4 has a slightly moving freedom in the longitudinal direction to the plugs 24 and 30.
