The invention relates to the identification of wooden objects, especially of tree trunks. More precisely it relates to a flat information medium (2), having two faces, one (2a) turned towards the object, the other (2b) turned outwards, and means (3, 4) for fixing this medium onto the object to be identified. These fixing means includes elements penetrating into the material of the object. According to the invention, the information medium is produced in a biodegradable starch-based thermoplastic material. <IMAGE>
