PURPOSE: To provide an optical product which generates a multi-colored image through the selective internal propagation of polarized monochromatic electromagnetic radiation from wavelength sources and a method which generates a multi-colored image by using the said product as to an optical product for reflecting and modulating electromagnetic radiation, specially, an optical product for multi-colored image generation. CONSTITUTION: This optical product includes a reflecting metal layer 108 which is <=0.5μm thick, a means which operates as a base 201 for guiding the polarized electromagnetic radiation to the said reflecting metal layer, a dielectric layer 106 which is interposed between the said base and reflecting metal layer and has a smaller refractive index than the said base and has thickness 0.1-10 times as large as the wavelength of the electromagnetic radiation guided toward the said reflecting metal layer, an electrooptic medium 110 which shows a refractive index correlative to an applied potential, and a counter electrode, and can modulates the reflection of the polarized electromagnetic radiation.
