PURPOSE: To simplify movement evaluation hardware by calculating a motion vector only for a selected image block and interpolating other image blocks based on at least a part of the calculated motion vector. CONSTITUTION: A character is allocated to each block in the vicinity of a block H on which the x and y components of a motion vector can be detected. A motion vector component for either one of the x and y components is received by a terminal 40. The received component is delayed by 'one block line minus one block' through a delay stage 42. An output from the delay stage 42 is a vector related to a block K. After another block delay through a delay stage 44, the motion vector component signal is impressed to a block line delay 46 to generate a motion vector related to a block G. An output from the delay 44 is impressed to a block delay 48 and an output from the delay 48 generates a motion vector related to a block E. The output of the delay 44 is impressed also to a delay 50 and an output from the delay 50 is related to a block H. |
