MULTICELL ELECTRIC BATTERY AND MANUFACTURE THEREOF

PURPOSE: To provide a multi-cell battery to effectively prevent leakage of an electrolyte. CONSTITUTION: A bipolar battery having a means for establishing an intercell connection between adjacent cells is furnished with a container 20 which includes an intercell partition 27 having a thickness section 29 thicker than a remaining portion. The thickness section 29 is provided with an opening 35 for containing an intercell connector link 48 by which both electrodes are connected in a bipolar electrode. The opening 35 includes mouth parts 37 and 39 in the respective end portions, and these mouth parts 37 and 39 confront paired adjacent cell compartments 30 respectively. Barriers 56 and 56' are provided in close contact with the mouth parts 37 and 39 of the opening 35. Regions 60 and 60' are defined for receiving a sealant 70 ejected between the barriers 56 and 56'. Then the barriers 56 and 56' confine the sealant 70 in the regions 60 and 60' to prevent the effluence of the sealant 70 into the adjacent cell compartments 30. For this purpose, the barriers 56 and 56' may be shaped as bars or glass fiber mats.
