PURPOSE: To provide an organic electroluminescent device to be protected from dark spot formation. CONSTITUTION: An organic electroluminescent device is provided forming a base, an anode, an organic electroluminescent medium and a cathode, containing several kinds of metal other than alkali metal, in this order. The cathode is inserted between a cap layer, containing at least either alkaline earth metal or rare earth metal, and the organic electroluminescent medium. In this cathode, at least one kind of metal has a work function of less than 4.0, and an electron injection layer is provided containing metal having a higher work function than alkaline earth metal or rare earth metal. |
